About Mic - our artist!
Mic Thomas draws patterns that look like they were made by a machine. They weren't. Every line, loop and tiny repeating shape is drawn by hand, in pen and ink on paper, from his studio in Bentleigh, Melbourne.
His work is graphic, hypnotic and obsessively detailed. Patterns spiral, ripple and repeat with an almost algorithmic precision, but look closer and you'll find the small wobbles and happy accidents that only a human hand leaves behind. No filters, no software, no shortcuts. Just a pen, some ink, and a lot of patience.
Mic is entirely self-taught, and art found him when he needed it most. After a horrific car accident as a young man, he went through a dark period, and drawing became the thing that pulled him out of it. Picking up a pen gave him somewhere to put his focus, then his energy, then his hope. Piece by piece, the act of making became a way of healing.
That experience sits at the heart of everything he creates. Mic is passionate about the healing power of art, and he believes the meditative state he finds while drawing lives on in the finished work. Each piece carries its own calm. Some are bold and buzzing, some are quiet and mandala-like, but all of them invite you to slow down, follow the lines, and breathe out. When life gets chaotic, they're a reminder to focus on the good stuff.
Alongside original artworks, Mic's designs are available as limited-run prints and on tees, printed in Melbourne. It's a way of getting his art out of the studio and into everyday life, because he reckons everyone deserves a little more calm and a little more colour in their day.
Mic's approach is simple: keep drawing, keep it real, and keep it kind. He's not here to be precious about it. He's here to make work that feels good to look at, feels good to wear, and maybe helps someone else find their way through a rough patch too.
